NEWS: Butterflies in Bloom: An Afternoon of Origami & Tea

10-11-2025

The seniors at The Kensington Sierra Madre wanted to learn something new, so we decided to host a special experience for them, a delightful high tea and origami event. The afternoon unfolded in the most heartwarming way, as the room filled with laughter, gentle conversation, and the soft rustle of colorful paper. Everyone joyfully learned to fold elegant butterflies and graceful cranes, their faces lighting up with pride and wonder as each creation took shape. Together, we strung the delicate origami pieces, butterflies and cranes, with shimmering beads to create a beautiful hanging display that they could proudly place by their window side, catching the light and dancing softly in the breeze.

It was so beautiful to see how one of the seniors became so inspired by the activity that he decided to make not just one, but two stunning pieces as gifts for his granddaughters. Another senior, who is usually quite shy and prefers not to have her picture taken, was so proud of her creation that she beamed with joy and happily allowed us to capture her special moment. The aroma of freshly brewed tea and the sweetness of dainty pastries added a comforting touch, making the experience even more memorable. It was a day filled with warmth, creativity, and the simple joy of learning something new, a cherished moment that will flutter in everyone’s hearts like the origami butterflies themselves.

NEWS: Sweet Day at the Senior Carnival

7-31-2025

This summer, Embrace had the joy of volunteering at Kensington Sierra Madre Senior Living.

This time, we brought the magic of a summer carnival to life! We helped serve up cotton candy and popcorn, filling the air with sweet nostalgia, and joined in on fun games like throwing footballs and matching rubber duckies. It was incredibly rewarding to see the residents light up with laughter and joy. Moments like these are a beautiful reminder of how a little fun and connection can make a big impact.

NEWS: Supporting Our Community in Times of Need

Sebastian and his family faced an unimaginable loss when their home was destroyed in the Eaton fires. During such a difficult time, we wanted to bring a little joy and comfort to Sebastian. Knowing how much his favorite toys, Huggy Wuggy and the Nightmare Before Christmas plushies meant to him, we made it our mission to surprise him with these special toys.

- Thank you to our sponsor, The Ivy Institute.

Sophia was deeply impacted by the Eaton fires, losing her home and many cherished belongings. Among them was her favorite toy—a Minnie Mouse playhouse set gifted to her by her grandmother—which she played with every day after daycare. This special toy brought her comfort and joy, making its loss even more heartbreaking. Wanting to bring some cheer back into her life, we were honored to grant her wish and replace her beloved Minnie Mouse playset.

- Thank you to our sponsor, Embrace member Logan Chiou.

Bianca, 9, and Stella, 14, were deeply impacted by the Eaton fires, which turned their world upside down and took away many of the things they cherished most. Bianca, the artist of the family, was heartbroken to lose her watercolor paints and sketchbooks, which had been her creative escape. Stella, a passionate musician, lost her treasured guitar collection, including her bass and ukulele—the very instruments that first sparked her love for music and had been passed down through the family. These meaningful and cherished items held more than just material value; they were pieces of their identity and joy. Knowing how much these items meant to them, we wanted to bring a little light back into their lives by surprising them with special gifts to restore their passion and bring them joy during this difficult time.

- Thank you to our sponsors, Vista Optometry Center and Jessica Tsai.

NEWS: Supporting Our Community in Times of Need

1-13-2025

The recent Los Angeles fires, including the Eaton Fire, has deeply impacted our community, leaving many of our neighbors without homes and in need of urgent support. During this difficult time, our hearts go out to all those affected by the wildfires. While my program traditionally focuses on serving the senior community, we believe in also supporting our community as a whole. I was able to gather essential donations including, clothes, food, and water which were delivered to the Santa Anita Park Fire Relief Center. Here, families affected by the fire could access these essential items. Additionally, I volunteered at the donation center, helping to organize the donations and supplies, and assist with their distribution. It was truly touching seeing our community come together for this special effort. Our commitment to this community is unwavering, and we want everyone to know that we are here for them, ready to lend a helping hand whenever its needed. We also want to express our deepest gratitude to the first responders for their bravery.
